Major Renovations Completed

Recent renovation work on Nags Head Inn Oceanfront was completed in three annual phases by local contracting firm, Premiere Contracting, Inc [PCI], just in time for the 2015 summer season.

Phase I renovations consisted of updating all bathrooms with more modern plumbing, countertops, cabinets, ceiling tiles, wallpaper and interior fixtures for the 2013 season. All oceanfront windows and doors were replaced with new high quality impact-resistant window/door assemblies, providing nearly 20% more brightness to rooms plus a higher efficiency thermal glass to increase guest comfort and decrease future energy use. PCI completed this phase in three months while the hotel remained open, transforming one floor at a time.

Considerably more involved, Phase II included renovating the entire elevator tower and lobby for 2014. This required removal of all glass on the tower front, then reframing with light gage steel in preparation for brand new “traditionally styled” windows. Specially made galvanized steel brackets were installed for beautifully custom crafted Ipe wood shutters. New insulation was added plus new siding installed along with freshly painted accent trim, resulting in greater guest comfort along with a much more polished, contemporary appearance. The lobby roof was removed and replaced using a natural wood finish exposed beam and plank ceiling, with accents lit for architectural flare.

Phase II renovations also consisted of modernizing the indoor pool room. Old windows were replaced with new traditionally styled yet super energy efficient windows, as structural blocks were reconfigured to accommodate these improvements. All structural block was freshly painted as well as accent colored trim. A new all-season HVAC system was installed to maintain optimal guest comfort for both humidity levels and temperature control year round. Again, thoughtful functionality resides beneath a much brighter, crisper finish to the entire pool room area. All of Phase II was completed within a five month time frame with the Inn only closed briefly.

Phase III consisted of new exterior paint, new hallway carpet, new roof and partial new tile in oceanfront rooms. All new roof installation meets energy code with thicker insulation along with a white high reflectance membrane, yielding improved guest comfort plus greater thermal efficiency with energy savings for years to come. New hallway carpet adds a more modern look to the corridors of the hotel. In addition to painting the exterior, the east elevation patios were repaired and painted using a long lasting sure-grip sealer for improved durability and safety. The pool patio was also painted with this same product. All of these upgrades were completed within four months, in time for the 2015 summer season and without closing the Inn.

Many thanks to Paul Henriques and the entire crew at PCI for completing this very complicated project in such small windows of time, with minimal inconvenience to valued guests at Nags Head Inn Oceanfront. The results are truly spectacular.
