Of the Outer Banks, the review notes, "The East Coast is typically better known for its sunrises, but not so in North Carolina's Outer Banks. Set up your lawn chair facing west, and enjoy the show."

Jockeys Ridge, Nags Head’s Hidden Perfect Beach

jockeys ridge nags head sound beachYou may already be aware that Jockeys Ridge State Park showcases the tallest naturally occurring sand dune on the East coast and a premier destination for kites plus hang gliding, but did you know it also has a near "perfect family beach" on the West side? Somewhat protected from the chilly Northeast, this West facing beach typically stays warm on into the autumn afternoons while the waters are very calm, safe and shallow ... even hundreds of feet from shore. You won't be catching any waves, but you may elect to paddle board, float or just play in calm, clean waters. To discover and explore, just Book Your Reservations Now at Nags Head Inn  and once you are here, check-out the South Entrance to Jockeys Ridge State Park, across from the Kitty Hawk Connection Shopping Center ... turning West on Soundside Road driving all the way back to Roanoke Sound, then turning Right into the public parking spaces by the beach. Of course, you can also hike back up the magnificent dunes from there or enter the park's main North entrance on Carolista Drive at milepost 12 on Hwy 158 Bypass (South Croatan Hwy). There you will find facilities, displays and lots of interesting programs plus activities for the entire family to enjoy.

Nags Head among ‘Sleepy beach towns perfect for fall’ – USA Today

As reported by USA Today, Nags Head is among 10 iconic U.S. beach towns that are perfect after Labor Day. Visit in fall, when you can drive happily and have beaches and lighthouses to yourself. The winds pick up again in autumn, an ideal time for kite-surfing or flying a kite in Nags Head. The sand cools off at Jockey's Ridge State Park, where you can climb the tallest natural sand dune in the eastern U.S. without burning your feet. In October, glide beneath the dark sky during a meteor shower and spot wildlife on a nighttime canoe or kayak tour. Find end-of-season sales in boutiques, surf shops, art galleries, and the outlet mall, then refuel with fall comfort food at the seven stops highlighted on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Nags Head Inn is conveniently located to all the great fall fun. Some of our favorite upcoming fall events include the Outer Banks Seafood Festival Oct 11 & 12 that is held within walking distance of Nags Head Inn on sound side in Nags Head. and the Bluegrass Festival Weekend Oct 4-6th nearby at Festival Park.
