Recent Renovation Puts Bodie Island Light Station Among ’10 Best Lighthouses Around The USA’

outer banks lighthousesJust a short drive South of recently renovated Nags Head Inn stands Bodie Lighthouse on Bodie Island ... also recently renovated, plus now among USA Today’s “10 best lighthouses around the USA.” A lighthouse website and app creator, Kraig Anderson first took a trip to see a lighthouse in North Carolina more than a decade ago, and has since visited every beacon in the country – that’s more than 750 depending how you define them. Of Bodie Island, the article notes, “This 156-foot Outer Banks beacon is often overshadowed by the nearby Cape Hatteras lighthouse, located on the same National Seashore. But its renovation last year, which opened the tower for climbing, makes it a must-see. ‘It’s stunning,’ Anderson says, and one of many standouts in the region. ‘The Outer Banks has the premier collection of lighthouses in the United States."'

State-of-the-Art Renovations With Character That Harkens Back To The Days Of “Old Cottage Row”

outer banks hotel oceanfront poolNags Head Inn Oceanfront has some very exciting upgrades in store for all of our guests during the 2014 season. As soon as you arrive you'll notice a fresh, new appearance to the elevator tower on the South end of the building, including long-life, energy efficient LED logo signage. Completely rebuilt construction includes commercial duty double hung windows with a more "traditional/residential" look and feel, pre-finished 5/8" artisan Hardie plank siding plus natural finish Brazilian ipe hardwood shutters.

The interior of each floor's elevator lobby in the tower is finished in natural juniper wood. Gone is the old glass ceiling over the main lobby, now replaced with a standing seam metal roof exterior and a wooden glulam beam featured wood ceiling interior. These spaces evoke a feeling that is at once both spacious as well as charmingly cozy.

Our oceanfront indoor pool area includes replacement of all steel beams as well as a portion of the split face block walls. Existing contemporary "storefront style" glass structure is now replaced with a combination of wood, block, steel and more "traditional/residential" appearance double hung windows. Behind the scenes are state-of-the-art heating, humidity and air conditioning technology for the ultimate in comfortable, healthy year round enjoyment for the entire family.

As always, you'll love our lush, well maintained Bermuda lawn and gardens. This year, you'll discover our new 125' duel path over the dunes to the beach, assuring that all guests can fully appreciate over 4 acres of pristine oceanfront in our quiet, residentially zoned neighborhood.

All of our carefully designed new features were architecturally integrated to match the classic era of "Unpainted Aristocracy" plus enhance Nags Head Inn's historical location in the midst of "Old Cottage Row". Come be a part of history and make your Reservation today!

Jockeys Ridge, Nags Head’s Hidden Perfect Beach

jockeys ridge nags head sound beachYou may already be aware that Jockeys Ridge State Park showcases the tallest naturally occurring sand dune on the East coast and a premier destination for kites plus hang gliding, but did you know it also has a near "perfect family beach" on the West side? Somewhat protected from the chilly Northeast, this West facing beach typically stays warm on into the autumn afternoons while the waters are very calm, safe and shallow ... even hundreds of feet from shore. You won't be catching any waves, but you may elect to paddle board, float or just play in calm, clean waters. To discover and explore, just Book Your Reservations Now at Nags Head Inn  and once you are here, check-out the South Entrance to Jockeys Ridge State Park, across from the Kitty Hawk Connection Shopping Center ... turning West on Soundside Road driving all the way back to Roanoke Sound, then turning Right into the public parking spaces by the beach. Of course, you can also hike back up the magnificent dunes from there or enter the park's main North entrance on Carolista Drive at milepost 12 on Hwy 158 Bypass (South Croatan Hwy). There you will find facilities, displays and lots of interesting programs plus activities for the entire family to enjoy.
